Enterprise 2.0

The Internet and the web in particular has enabled a shift in how people communicate with each other, enabling rich and frequent two-way communication with un-preceded reach, immediacy, usability, and accessibility.

Many businesses are today facing increasing competition and a rapidly changing business environment, to a large extent due to the impact of the Internet. To remain competitive and succeed under these conditions, businesses will increasingly depend in their ability to quickly adapt to a changing environment, to innovate more and at greater speed, and to collaborate with across organizational, geographical and cultural borders. Operational efficiency will still be important, but it won’t be enough to create competitive advantage.

Enterprise 2.0 is a term for business practices and technologies originating from the social web - such as blogs, wikis, feeds and social networking - which can be used to improve communication, knowledge sharing, collaboration and innovation within an enterprise. Successful implementation of Web 2.0 and social technologies in an enterprise context requires an understanding of the values, principles, culture and human behaviors that make communication, sharing and collaboration happen in a natural way across barriers such as organization, time, culture, and location.

Main Business Benefits of Enterprise 2.0
Facilitate the capture and sharing of tacit knowledge, as well as allowing ideas to flow and finding their way to coworkers who can make them happen, thereby fueling innovation.
Enable more efficient and effective communication, sharing and collaboration within teams and within an enterprise as a collective, as well as allowing new co-operations and collaborations to emerge by allowing coworkers to find each other, connect, and build trust in each other.
Improve findability, discovery, maintenance and reuse of information, thereby reducing human latency and avoiding time spent on searching and managing information, reducing waste and rework, and avoiding reproduction of information that already exists.
Create ambient awareness that allows coworkers to know what goes in their work environment and when it is their turn to contribute - despite that the people and resources are physically disconnected by time, location, culture.
Enable the coworkers to aggregate, maintain and share a collective body of knowledge and intelligence with the enterprise as a whole.
