Acando aims for its operations to have as little negative environmental impact as possible. This work led to Acando being one of the first IT companies to receive an environmental diploma from Göteborg’s environmental administration.
In recent years, the company has not met the requirements for an environmental diploma because not all staff have undergone environmental training. However, the company’s environmental commitment cannot be considered to have decreased. The situation is on account of expansion and new staff being appointed. A method to give all staff adequate training is being prepared.
Environmental management system
The environmental work at Acando is the responsibility of the Facility Manager and takes place by order of the MD.
The work is carried out on the basis of an environmental plan that aims to ensure compliance with the Environmental Policy.
The environmental plan is revised for each financial year and the company management checks against it continually. Where Acando’s customers so require, the results of environmental work are reported by customer managers.
Recycling, awareness of the ecocycle and reconditioning
All IT equipment at Acando is disposed of in an environmentally-friendly manner. Where possible, Acando tries to sell equipment for reuse. Where this cannot be done, the equipment is delivered to partners for dismantling and recycling, where possible.
In all its offices, Acando aims to sort paper and other waste.
Work to reduce environmental impact
Acando’s most important environmental issue is staff travel. Consultancy work involves a lot of travel, some of which is by car and plane. We aim to constantly reduce our environmental impact from travel. The following guidelines apply:
Internal meetings must primarily be held via videoconference or phone.
With a choice of means of transport between the train, plane and car, the train must always be chosen unless the loss of time exceeds more than 1 hour each way. The default means of transport between Stockholm and Göteborg must be the train.
All cab companies we use must be instructed that Acando would like to have certified green cars (miljöbilar) if they are available in the area.
Acando’s company cars must be green cars. Acando also urges its employees to choose green cars, partly from the point of view of the environment and partly from the point of view of personal finance as they have a lower fringe benefit value for tax assessment.
Another minor measure taken is that all printers purchased for Acando AB are double-sided and set by default for double-sided printing. This reduces paper consumption and results in savings for both our finances and the environment.
To reduce power consumption at Acando, new offices are fitted with timer-controlled lighting. In existing offices that are not fitted with timer control, our own staff and cleaning staff are instructed that it is the responsibility of all to switch off lights to reduce energy use.
