Acando are partnering with EMC Corporation to implement SourceOne — a new family of products and solutions for email archiving. Customers can save more than 50 percent in total cost of ownership, achieve payback on the solution in as little as 12 months, ensure compliance to internal governance policies and external industry regulations, whilst mitigating risks associated with e-discovery.

‘BBC News 01/10/09. A decision by a county court judge could mean thousands of borrowers being able to renege on their debts.
Judge Jacqueline Smart at South Shields county court has decided that the MBNA credit card company cannot demand the repayment of a customer's debt. It tried to force Mrs Lynne Thorius to repay the £8,000 she owed on her card. However failure on behalf of MBNA to locate documents and email attachments influenced Judge Jacqueline Smart decision to find against MNBA.

This recent case is just one of many that highlight the massive growth in numbers and the importance to organizations of staying in control of the email explosion. According to IT company Radicati and excluding spam, there are some 55 billion emails per day, many of which will have attachments.

Email has provided an easy, low cost channel for providing business service and business interaction but organisations now face the challenges of eDiscovery to ensure they remain in control and exercise good business governance and regulatory compliance.

Independent IT researchers indicate that organisations with e-mail archive implementations experience several measurable benefits, including lower storage costs as well as more efficient compliance, electronic discovery, and data protection operations.

Those organisations looking to improve message management that have yet to invest in an e-mail archiving solution should assign values to these benefits in the form of an ROI.

EMC Corporation, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, have partnered with Acando UK to launch EMC SourceOne — a new family of products and solutions for archiving, e-discovery and compliance—aimed at helping companies centrally manage multiple content types in order to apply consistent retention, disposition and overall lifecycle management.  With EMC SourceOne, customers can save more than 50 percent in total cost of ownership, achieve payback on the solution in as little as 12 months, ensure compliance to internal governance policies and external industry regulations and mitigate risks associated with e-discovery.

EMC SourceOne delivers an integrated approach to information governance through the use of archiving as a foundational technology, enhanced by retention and disposition capabilities for effective information management as well as e-discovery as a repeatable business process.  Initially, EMC SourceOne will archive e-mail and instant messages.  Support for files, SharePoint, enterprise applications, XML and other content types will be added in the future.  For companies with 1,000 mailboxes, savings from EMC SourceOne will average $1 million in a single year.  Companies can also realise a reduction of up to 60 percent in storage and backup costs.*

Effective information management enables organisations to reduce the amount of content retained by an organisation and ensure that high-value information is properly managed, safe-guarded and leveraged.  According to Gartner’s report, “E-Discovery: Project Planning and Budgeting 2008-2011,” dated February 6, 2008:

Up to 90 percent of stored data is redundant or out of date
E-mail files, mainly .PST and files from other systems, consume up to 50 percent of network drive storage

One gigabyte of data can result in $18,750 in legal review costs.
